Fixed Gear Bikes: Stupid.
This is only true if 2 Conditions are met:
- You live in Halifax, &
- You only bought one because they are trendy.
I walk by NASCAD Campus everyday on my way to work and see trendy art kids who don’t even know how to ride a normal bicycle struggle hurendously on a fixed gear bicycle. This is a bike that has no freewheel, one speed, and the only way to stop is to backpedal. Furthermore, Halifax doesn’t lend itself to riding fixed gear bikes (especially downtown) due to how many hills there are.
Now, I know that there are hardcore fixie gear-heads that can flawlessly and effortlessly ride their fixed gear bikes around Halifax. But it does not cease to amazing me when (every morning) I see numerous collisions of artsy-indie NASCAD kids who decided to start riding a bike again for the first time in 15 years and chose a fixie… Good luck idiots.
Also, I swear to god that if I see another dude walking out of that place with his hair dyed grey I’m going to snap!
