Consider this a new column from brown.dudevice.com. A column on observing the diverse differences in culture and demographics. i.e. An opportunity for me to rant about “stuff”.
I would like to bring your attention to the “Old Man Leather Jacket” (see above). This is a coat that is typically worn by males between the age of 40 and 60 and includes both lower and upper middle class social segments too. They are typically working professionals, who are suit and tie by day and aren’t necessarily fashion aficionados of any degree, but aren’t idiots in burlap sacks either. However, this jacket provides them with an opportunity. This jacket is a strong metaphor that allows them to break free from the shackles of their working life. It makes a statement. It says to the world “Damnit. I am a man. I don’t just work all the time. Look. I’m cool… see? C’mon!”
Furthermore, this jacket is worn at every opportunity possible, even in situations where it being sported as a garment is inappropriate (i.e. too hot, too cold, rainy, etc.) . Here’s to you middle aged man jacket. You provide joy and a sense of freedom to old guys the world over.
Kudos!
